Youth Overcoming Depression and Anxiety

What is Y.O.D.A.?

Y.O.D.A. is a group treatment program that runs for 1 half day per week for 10- 12 weeks, plus booster sessions. The program will serve up to 8 youth per group throughout the Halton region; including North Halton, Oakville and Burlington. The treatment program is based upon existing evidence based cognitive behavioural therapy for youth experiencing anxiety and depression. .

Who is Y.O.D.A. For?

The Halton Y.O.D.A. program is designed to service youth in Grades 6, 7, and 8 who are exhibiting symptoms of anxiety and/or depression. Their symptoms may include:

  • Low self-esteem
  • Inability to express emotion
  • Excessive worry or fear of future or past events
  • Fear of being humiliated or embarrassed
  • School or situational avoidance
  • Sadness and apprehension
  • Feelings of worthlessness and guilt
  • Withdrawal from others
  • Loss of interest and pleasure in usual activities

  • Deep breathing and relaxation techniques
    • Introductory meditation and yoga
    • Healing stories
    • Free writing
    • Story telling
  • Role playing
  • Parent education/information sessions
  • In home support
  • Collaboration with home schools to facilitate successful re-integration and/or application of new skills acquired in program
  • Liaison with community supports
  • Individual work with youth
  •
