Transition to High School Program

‘Ready to Succeed’ is an after school program that operates in a high school setting for individuals in grades 7 – 10 with a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome, PDD NOS or HFA (High Functioning Autism). This program is available to students who live in an area serviced by the Hamilton Public or Catholic school boards. Students must be capable of participating in group activities without 1:1 support.

The focus of this program is to prepare students aged 12 – 15 for success at the high school level. A group is run for youth in grades 7 and 8 and a separate group for youth in grades 9 and 10. Weekly small group work sessions for those in grades 7 and 8 focus on organizational and time management skills, life skills and social skills needed for success in high school. This group practices learned skills in the community on an additional night each week.

Youth in grades 9 and 10 learn and practice skills appropriate to a high school setting one evening a week. Within the group context they have the opportunity to discuss and problem solve current issues or concerns they encounter at high school.
