Social and Life Skills Groups
Our groups provide children and youth in the Hamilton and Halton regions the opportunity to learn a wide variety of age-appropriate skills, increase independence and build social networks in a fun, safe and accepting environment.
Groups focus on the development of social skills, communication skills, recreation and life skills. Children and youth are grouped according to age: 7-9; 10-12; and 16 – 18 to facilitate age-appropriate interaction. These groups run 3 times per month from September to June with opportunities throughout the year for day trips, day camp and overnight camp experiences depending on the age of the participant (choose ‘Camps’ in the sidebar) Many group activities take place in the community with a focus on age-appropriate social experiences and expectations.
There is a Transition to High School program (Hamilton only) for children/youth aged 13 – 15 in grades 7-10 (choose ‘Transition to High School Program’ in the sidebar).
Peer Facilitators in each group model positive, age appropriate behaviour, facilitate and encourage conversation and help build friendships.
Group participants must have a diagnosis of ASD, be willing to participate in a variety of activities and respond to direction. Participants need to be able to function within a group environment with a staffing ratio of 2:6-12 (dependent on the age of the group).
Family support is an important part of this program. Staff keep parents informed about their child/youth’s progress and are available to help with problem solving and/or planning.

The staff is well informed about current issues surrounding P.D.D. I would highly recommend the Friendship Club
Thank you for running a program that my son is interested in! Great job and support
