About Woodview Mental Health & Autism Services

Pathways (IBI)

VISION

Pathways (IBI): Woodview Pathways program is designed to meet the individual needs of children and youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and follows the characteristics of effective intervention programs.  The program draws on best practices and evidence based research to ensure that the variety of learning styles of all children and youth in the program are addressed regardless of functioning level.  Pathways is a child centred program and is committed to teaching the essential core skills that will enable a child or youth to transition to mainstream and/or alternative settings smoothly and with greater success and improved outcomes.

The Woodview Pathways Program provides services to children and youth who have a formal diagnosis of ASD.  The clinical team will work collaboratively with the family to determine if this program is appropriate to meet the individual needs of their child or youth and identify goals.

Woodview has established a number of Autism partnerships with various agencies across Central West Region:

  • Ministry of Children and Youth Services
  • Erinoak Kids
  • The Halton District School Board
  • Nelson Youth Centres
  • Halton Support Services

As the needs of individuals with ASD are unique, it is important to collaborate with professionals already involved and make referrals as needed.  Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, school personnel and other professionals with experience in ASD are key partners in facilitating effective intervention.  As the goal of the Woodview Pathways program is to facilitate the development of core skills essential for a smooth transition to mainstream environments such as school, these partnerships are key.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

  • Full Day IBI Program (year round)
  • Social Skills Programs/Mini Camps

Woodview Pathways Program offers a number of program options to families based on their child’s individual needs.  The number of instructional hours will be determined by the Clinical Supervisor on board, and in collaboration with the Senior Therapist and the family to ensure intervention is intensive in nature and will yield the best results for the child.

Programs can vary from a one to one setting, to group instruction and will be altered to meet the child’s immediate needs as well as his/her goals for the future.  Woodview’s IBI program will include intensive programming along with many recreational and social activities that take place within Woodview, as  well as off site (i.e) restaurants, sports facilities, parks, stores etc., in order to promote generalization.

ASSESSMENTS/SERVICES PLANS

In order to meet the individuals needs of clients as well as to determine appropriate goals, Woodview’s clinical team will draw on a variety of assessment tools to develop program plans.  A skill based assessment such as The Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills – Revised (ABLLS-R), will be done upon entry and will be updated on a six month or as needed basis.

An Individual Service Plan (ISP) will also be developed and will serve as a guide to program delivery.  In addition to identifying the child’s strengths and weaknesses, it should also reflect a development chronology of prerequisite skills to be targeted immediately as well as future targets.  ISP’s will include transition plans and will clearly draw on and reflect the use of ABA principles in teaching.
