About Woodview Mental Health & Autism Services

Autism Services

1 in 165 individuals has autism, 70,000 in Ontario alone.

Every 20 minutes, a  child is diagnosed with autism.

Autism Spectrum Disorders are complex neurobiological disorders that have a lifelong effect on the development of a person’s various abilities and skills.  It is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life: it is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain. Many individuals with autism also have an anxiety or mood disorder.

Children and adults with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities. They find it hard to communicate with others and relate to the outside world.

Eligibility for Autism Services

Woodview provides Autism Services to children, youth and adults with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Eligibility for the Pathways (IBI) Intensive Behavioural Intervention and (ABA) Applied Behavioural Analysis programs is determined by our partner agency, ErinoakKids. The IBI program services children and youth with a diagnosis of Autism. Eligibility for (ABA) Applied Behavioural Analysis is determined by Erinoakskids in Central West and Hamilton Health Services in Hamilton, Brant, Niagara and Haldimand-Norfolk.

For Hamilton Autism Programs, all participants must be able to function within a staff ration of approximately 2:8, be able to follow direction, stay with a group, be willing to participate, and be

able to move to increased levels of independence. Adults taking part in these programs cannot require consistent 1:1 behavioural support.

Currently, the majority of Autism programs provided by Woodview is offered to residents of the Hamilton Region only, however Pathways (IBI) is located in Halton and open to Halton residents, and the Woodview Learning Centre is open to all geographic locations.
